City Snow Response
During major snow events, the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) moves to 12-hour shifts with over 2,600 workers per shift to keep streets clear. You can monitor their progress in real-time via the PlowNYC tracker.
Alternate Side Parking is typically suspended during and after major storms. Parking meters may still be in effect. Check 311 for current status.
Sidewalk Snow Rules
By law, property owners must clear snow and ice from sidewalks within 4 hours after the snow stops (or by 11 AM if it stops overnight).
Building owners and landlords are responsible for keeping sidewalks safe and passable. This includes clearing a path at least 4 feet wide and removing ice with salt or sand.

- •Warming buses deployed throughout the city
- •Warming spaces at NYC Health + Hospitals locations
- •School locations open as warming centers
- •All shelters have an open-door policy during Code Blue
